Registration of Family Day Care and School Age Child Care Programs:
-
The Child Care Council is the designated Registrar for Family Day Care homes and School Age Child Care Programs in Chemung County. This is a contract through the Chemung County Department of Social Services and is overseen by the Rochester Regional Office of Children and Family Services.
-
There is a need for additional high-quality child care programs for children. Many providers decide to open a Family Day Care home when they have their own children and opt to stay home with them. If operated as a professional business and providing a high-quality program will result in a rewarding career and viable employment.
-
Family Day Care homes and School-Age child care programs must comply with all NYS regulations governing the type of care they are providing. The NYS Office of Children and Family Services (NYSOCFS) website – www.ocfs.ny.gov has all of the required regulations available for programs and parents to review.
-
Persons interested in opening a Family Day Care Home or a School Age Program need to first go onto the NYSOCFS website and review the regulations to ensure this is a business they elect to open and operate and that they will be able to comply with the regulations.
-
The Child Care Council provides technical assistance through the process of opening a program and conducts on-site monitoring visits as well as complain investigations.
-
NYS Office of Children and Family Services is responsible for approval or denial of registration applications.
-
NYS Office of Children and Family Services licenses Group Family Day Care Homes and Day Care Centers.
