Registration of Family Day Care and School Age Child Care Programs

The Child Care Council is the designated Registrar for Family Day Care homes and School Age Child Care Programs in Chemung County. This is a contract through the Chemung County Department of Social Services and is overseen by the Rochester Regional Office of Children and Family Services.

There is a need for additional high-quality child care programs for children. Many providers decide to open a Family Day Care home when they have their own children and opt to stay home with them. If operated as a professional business and providing a high-quality program will result in a rewarding career and viable employment.

Family Day Care homes and School-Age child care programs must comply with all NYS regulations governing the type of care they are providing. ​​

Persons interested in opening a Family Day Care Home or School Age Program can visit the NYS OCFS website – ocfs.ny.gov and click on child care. There are many resources on this site including the regulations and a Child Day Care Orientation. One can request an application at the end of the Orientation.

The Child Care Council provides technical assistance through the process of opening a program and conducts on-site monitoring visits as well as complaint investigations.

NYS Office of Children and Family Services is responsible for approval or denial of registration applications.

NYS Office of Children and Family Services licenses Group Family Day Care Homes and Day Care Centers.
